For homeowners

Wall removal for Houston homes

You want the room open. We take out the wall, including walls that carry weight, and leave a clean opening ready for whatever gets built next.

The work

What removing a wall actually involves

Illustration of a wall opening A simplified elevation drawing. A section of wall is shown removed, a beam spans the opening, posts at each end carry it, and arrows show load travelling down to the foundation. BEAM OPENING POST LOAD TO FOUNDATION LOAD ABOVE
Illustration only. Every opening is designed for its own house.

Taking out a wall that carries nothing is mostly careful demolition and making good what it leaves behind. Taking out a load bearing wall is different. The weight above does not disappear when the wall does. It moves, and something has to receive it.

In broad terms, that means the load above is supported while the wall comes out, a beam takes over the load, the ends of that beam carry it down through the house to the foundation, and the work is inspected. What runs inside the wall, like wiring, plumbing, or ductwork, has to go somewhere too.

None of that is a reason not to do it. It is the reason it is worth doing properly.

What we do

The structural opening, handled

  • Look at the wall in person and tell you plainly what we see
  • Explain what the work involves before anything is scheduled
  • Take care of permitting when the work requires it
  • Remove the wall and leave a clean opening ready for the next phase

Want the room finished afterward, or the whole remodel done? We can talk about that once the structural scope is clear. It is your choice, never a condition of the work.

Before you call anyone

Three things worth doing now

  1. Do not open the wall to find out. Exploratory demolition on a wall that turns out to carry load is how a small project becomes a structural problem.
  2. Take photos. The room from a few angles, the ceiling, and both ends of the wall.
  3. Note what is above. One story or two, and whether there is a room, an attic, or a roof directly over the wall.

Then read Is my wall load bearing? and Beam options, and what drives the choice, so you know what to ask whoever quotes the job.
